Crazy winds up here today. Nothing too dangerous as long as you aren't driving, but enough to make you feel like you're going to fall over. We went out to do a shoot, and we thought the wind and rain had ruined our plans. Then I got the idea to use the wind as a tool, so the goal became to capture the wind itself in a photo. There were so many good shots, it was hard to pick just one, but I felt that this one best represented the intensity of the wind. I just love her expression, and her hair surrounded her face perfectly. I feel like there's a storm brewing in her eyes.

Not super shopped, actually. I adjusted the contrast, obviously, and I did some small touch ups. Adjusted the levels just a bit to bring out the blue. Some slight, intentional blur meant to capture the erratic wind movement.
What a wonderful picture! It is really wonderful how you could turn around a messy weather situation to make a great picture. I truly love the movement in her hair and the expression on her face totally says "I meant for this wind to be here." It's so powerful! My one critique is with the light. There's a huge range of light and dark, but some of the lighter shadows got a little lost. That usually happens with harsh, direct light, like a flash, and you can use it to your advantage, I just wish I could see a bit more detail in the hair around her face, as well as the color around her eyes. Altogether, though, a great, great piece! Keep up the great work!
Hi, I am not a pro nor a semi pro, just a hobbyist who began a couple years ago. For me this shot is a little too out of focus. Not sure if its shutter speed or just focus. I lean more towards shutter speed though. With your Canon 7D, You should be getting crisper shots. play around with the settings a bit. was a good idea though for a shot.
Oh, but I have to add, I took plenty of crisp shots during this shoot, but the mood was different. So the blur here isn't usually as much of a problem in my other stuff.
No, you're right--it was the shutter speed. While some of the blur was intentional, I agree that it did go a bit too far, and that was because I'm very inexperienced. I feel like hiding the description of what camera I'm using, though, because my camera doesn't change how experienced I am, lol. At any rate, regardless of the camera, I do want to find a sharpness that I see in other photos of varying styles. You know what I'm talking about--the crisp lines that are in the most popular images floating around DA. If you look through my gallery, you'll see that while some come close to a decent sharpness, none of them are completely there. I'm hoping I can figure it out, maybe get this friend of the family who showed me a couple tricks to teach me a thing or two.
Anyway, thank you for taking the time to comment and for giving me your opinion! I appreciate anyone putting thought into my photos. ^^ I'll keep your suggestions in mind next time I fiddle around with the camera.
hmm I was wondering ... what lens are you using? And which mode od camera? I'm no pro, just a hobbyst, but maybe this is the case besides the speed.... I like the mood of this picture anyway
